VISIT ALMENKERK WINE ESTATE

In the heart of the Elgin Valley, Almenkerk is more than a wine farm — it’s a place to slow down, breathe, and connect with what matters.

Start your visit with a relaxed tasting in our architecturally designed cellar or on the terrace overlooking the vineyards. Our team, led by David, will guide you through our three ranges — the approachable Lace, the expressive Almenkerk Collection, and the rare Flemish Masters (not available for tasting). Expect easy conversation and a genuine sense of place.

Pair your tasting with a generous cheese and charcuterie platter, perfect for sharing. It’s best enjoyed slowly, with good company and a view across the valley.

Feeling active? Explore the Active@Almenkerk Trail, a 5 km route through vineyards and fynbos with an optional 2 km extension. The trail’s proceeds support our alien-clearing and conservation work — so every step does a bit of good.

Before you leave, take a moment to wander around the cellar, browse our wines, or join the Masters Club to keep the story going at home.

David van Wyk

David, our tasting room manager, grew up in the Hemel-en-Aarde Valley near Hermanus and brings with him a natural warmth and determination that immediately makes guests feel at home. His respectful, down-to-earth approach is balanced with an ambition to build a better future for himself and those he cares about.

Although not a wine drinker himself, David has quickly come to appreciate the unique expression of Almenkerk wines — especially our Sauvignon Blanc, which he recognises as a true reflection of Elgin’s cool climate and soils. For David, hard work and hospitality go hand in hand. He thrives on making every visitor’s experience worthwhile, whether by sharing a story from the vineyard or simply ensuring your glass is poured with care. Outside of Almenkerk, you’ll likely find him on the rugby field, giving the same wholehearted energy to his local club as he does to our guests.

Hiking Trail

Almenkerk Wine Estate offers more than just wine; it provides a unique connection to nature. Nestled on the edge of the UNESCO-protected Kogelberg Nature Reserve, our estate is home to a scenic hiking trail that allows visitors to explore the breathtaking natural surroundings. As a WWF Conservation Champion, we are committed to preserving this land, and our hiking trail provides guests with the opportunity to enjoy the beauty of our environment firsthand, taking in the views while learning more about our sustainable farming practices.

De Brasserie

Did you know we have a family-owned restaurant right on the beachfront in Strand (about 40 mins away from us in Elgin)? De Brasserie, true to our Belgian roots, is a charming bistro offering world-class cuisine in a stunning seaside setting. It is run by our sister Annelies van Almenkerk.

Naturally, our wines are also featured on the menu and available for purchase by the case at cellar prices. For more details, visit De Brasserie’s website and discover the perfect blend of flavors and atmosphere.

You’ll soar above rolling vineyards and dramatic mountainscapes, with breathtaking views of the Elgin Valley’s beauty. Upon landing at Almenkerk Wine Estate, you’re greeted by serene vineyards and the promise of world-class wines.
